Looks like the Dakota will be getting driven a lot more.
So this morning I was driving home from work (I work graveyards) driving my 91 Daytona. Now over the past few weeks I have been getting a continuous knocking sound especially at higher speeds from approx 70-80mph. My car is overdue for an oil change so my theory was that I had lifters knocking due to the oil thinning out. I discussed the issue with my dad and he said the same thing.
Well today the knocking got noticeably louder and a whole lot worse. It got so loud it was unbearable then I heard a loud thud like something hit under the hood and then I heard something bounce off the undercarriage and hit the road. Smoke was coming out from under the hood and it was running terrible so I immediately pulled over. My first guess based on the sound was that it threw a rod through the block. Once I got the hood open this guess was confirmed to be true.
Rod shot through the side of the block causing oil to spray all over the engine compartment and the underside of the hood and it made about a 2 inch long by 1 inch wide hole in the block. I could clearly see the crankshaft through this hole.
So being that I live in an apartment complex with no where to take the car and not wanting to shell out a towing fee I signed the title over to a salvage yard just a bit ago in a trade for no towing costs.
Well that's my eventful day. Hopefully I can now get a little shut eye. It looks like the Dak is probably going to be doing the brunt of the work now. Anywho I know how everyone loves a good story so I thought I would share with you all.

Ouch... I am almost in the same boat as you... my phuckus is kinda down. Its doesnt have a rod through the block but it does have a valve or two thats burnt! Thank god you have the dakota as a backup.

Yeah pretty ****ty deal. Oh well I guess I start saving for another commuter car. Definitely glad it isn't my truck throwing a rod if it was I would be totally screwed.

Thats awesome. I love that story. Too bad you couldn't send it off "Dukes of Hazard Style" That's what we did with my buddies Omni when the rod knocking got too bad to drive. The perfect "ramp" was in a sucluded part of his apartment building parking lot. Suspension failed. Taken away on a flatbed.
