Optima return % due to just being "bad"- Nearly 60% for us. As a whole, as high as 70% at times.

Each and every vehicle has it electrical and charging system gone over to be sure of what's going on.

Yes, we keep very close track of these and report back to Interstate with the info.

I have a list of who makes what batteries. I will see if I can find it and post it here. I know I did over at DT.

You will hear stories of Optima's last 8-10 years. Sure they did, but they are not the same battery that you buy today.

Just stating the facts we have as a dealer.

This list is 2 years old. Things may have changed since then. It was accurate at the time

This may help you with that. I found my list I got from someone on the manufacturers of batteries in the U.S.
A few may have changed, but then again, I don't know if any did.

Very nice info! It's interesting that Diehard, and Diehard Gold are made by 2 different companies.

hey guys, last week i had my truck in for an oil change(free at the dealership) and they tested the battery and they said it was low on charge and they recharged it. i had the truck out earlier and noticed it took a little bit more to start it today. ive got the factory remote start on my big horn and it usually only takes maybe 5 seconds for it to start, but it was more like 15 today and when i got to where i was going and parked it for a few minutes, it almost didnt start. time for a new one? its an 08 with 19k miles on it. does optima make a red top for our trucks?

You sure you want an Optima?

Make sure all cells are filled (if you can) and use battery acid, not water.

To properly test a battery, it must first be fully charged at a slow rate. 2amps/hour is ok. Full charge will take 24-36 hours.
Then you must remove the surface charge from the battery. (There are a few ways to do this)

Then load test the battery- If bad, replace. If good, check the following:

Battery terminals- Are they clean and tight?

Are the ground cable clean and tight where they "ground out"?

Is the positive cable clean and tight on starter?

Is the trigger wire to started clean and tight?

Does trigger wire have full voltage at the starter terminal when key is in start position?

Check alt. output? is it charging at 14+ volts?

That should get you going. If you still have a problem, let me know.

NJ is just full of useful battery info.

Asphalt, 5 seconds is a long time to crank before she starts, let alone 15. Do you take very short trips back and forth to work or something? Is your alternator putting out? Maybe you should buy her an extra glass of wine or something..

Comes from being a Master Tech.... that and being extremely **** with everything I do. I hate ever having a customer complain about something I did. So I try like not to give them a reason.

its ten miles to work for me. i start it up when i get outa the shower every morning and it usually runs for 5-10 minutes in the driveway before i leave. maybe its just the cold weather. it only hesitates on the remote. she'll crank right over with just the key.

haha. oops, i just noticed this was in the dak section. my bad. i guess thats what i get for searching. this is for an 08 1500 5.7 hemi.

I bought an optima despite the warnings. It is warrantied and I really want to see how it runs with all my electronics for a while, it got great reviews everywhere but here. Just the opposite for napa and sears...I saw bad reviews for them and it was hard to find what I needed. If something goes wrong, or right for that matter, I will report back and go NAPA/Sears if needed.
