Default High Beam "Bypass"?

Hey guys I'm new to the thread and I'm not sure if this has been asked, but I've been curious.

I've got the fog lights in my sport bumper and when I click on my high beams they automatically shut the fogs off. Is it possible to bypass that?

(I've also been wondering what site everyone has been using to customize they're 3rd gen. Dakotas.)

-Thanks in Advance!

Welcome to DF!

So far nobody I know of has done it using the stock switch without throwing a code and having the check engine light come on. It's definitely annoying. As for what site, this one of course!

It actually varies for me as far as buying parts. Ebay, AutoAnything.com, and PerformanceProducts4Trucks.com have probably been my most frequented ones so far along with buying a few things off other members here.

Thanks a lot Altair. That response makes me ask another question though. If the check engine light comes on can't I just clear it? Or will it just come back on?

You could just build a new harness for the fogs that is run by a relay activated by the marker lights.

Fogs with high beams generally won't help though, more light up close will make things at a distance harder to see. I wired up some decent driving lights instead, they really make a difference.

they can be wired up using all the stock switches, just need to wire in 2 relays, one to put power to the fogs with the signal from the highs, and another to break the wire between the other relay and the computer also with a signal from the highs

i just came up with a great idea...maby...

this can be done with one relay, a normal 5 pin square relay found at any parts store

you would cut the wire feeding power to the fog lights, the fog light side of the wire would go to pin 30, the computer side of the wire would go to pin 87A, power from the highbeam circuit would go to pin 85, battery power (+)to pin 87, ground to pin 86,

this will allow normal operation of the fogs when on low beams, but will turn the fogs on all the time when the high beams are on, the only way to shut the fogs off with highs on would be to put a switch in line between the high beam circuit and pin 85,

here is a drawing, its crude but should get the idea...

I always fuse anything wired straight to the battery, if anything goes wrong you'll be glad it was the fuse blowing and not something else (like melting the insulation and starting a fire).

i couldnt stand it, i had to do it, so i hooked everything up tonight, works great, fogs are always on with highs, but the way i see it, if i am using the highs, there is no reason not to run the fogs too, but mine really are not fogs anymore, so it works perfect for what i got
