A tailgate lock would also solve that issue.

Darn why didn't I think of that. A pop n lock would be much cheaper and they also make a powered version for our truck if you so desired.

Have a tonneau cover? if not, look into the roll n lock. have one adn it is great. can lock the tailgate so that what you put in the bed is secure. Looks nice also. Get a lot of questions on it when out.

Be careful with those if you have someone that likes to try and open the tailgate though. Sometimes it will let the gate out just enough when you try to open it and the cover is locked that the gate latches don't catch again. Then when you unlock the cover the tailgate comes down and smashes you in the knee, lol.

in the knee? hell I ain't that tall! yea, another thing to make sure of is you don't do is try to close the tonneau without having the tailgate up. Stoppers at the end of the track are plastic and I have shattered a couple. nice thing though, is roll n lock expected this and I got replacements really fast. Had to pay, but 4 bucks for my stupidity is cheap considering how much my stupidity has cost me in other areas!!!

Ah my dad has the old school model where the stoppers are metal, and when I smashed myself in the knee with the gate I had one foot on the hitch ball. Was planning to open the cover and just grab something out of the back, wasn't planning on a 2 ton Ram tailgate to smash my knee instead. They are solid covers though, very secure. Only problem we've ever had with them is freezing up once in awhile (rarely).

I am thinking of taking the gamble as the shock assist ones that are listed for the Ram are like 50 bucks and it might be worth the gamble!

I could have sworn I saw a replacement tailgate handle that locks.
