Default An easy way to add 10 RWHP, or a disaster waiting to happen?

Hello everyone,

So its official, I have ordered a Superchips Cortex that should be here Wednesday. I was browsing airram.com and ran across this: http://www.airram.com/product.php?ca...6&productid=21
Its a wire that goes between the temp sensor in the intake and your PCM. It fools the PCM by sending a temp reading of 20 degrees less than what it actually is creating a richer air/fuel mix. It only works during WOT, as during all other throttle positions the air/fuel ratio is set on a default. Its said to give a gain of 8-10RWHP.

What are your thoughts on this? Could I use it with my new programmer on my 4.7? Would you use it on your application? And is this harmful to the engine? Any opinions or knowledge is welcome, because it sure seems way to good to be true for only $55.

Its nothing more than a resistor. You can build one for pennies. 8-10 RWHP is only a gimmick...

Is something like this even worth looking in to, or just leaving alone?

The one part that really seemed fishy to me was when it states a 1-2mpg increase, but it also said the air fuel ratio was always at 14.75:1 at all time except for WOT.

If you search for power wire, someone was building them for like 10 bucks shipped. I shouldnt have said it cost pennies because it was alittle more than that. It cost like 5-6 bucks or something. A couple older threads though map everything out for ya, resistor values and all. I cant think of the top f my head the exact numbers. Some guys like em. I havent really ever been too interested in em.

Oh boy, nitrous ..... I would have to fill up the bottle every day.
Do you have to upgrade your fuel pump for nitrous, or is it just a "bolt-on" type of deal?

I would not do it. From the superchips forum when Ron was asked about it:

This prolonged cooler readings will lead to eventually having sludge build up in the motor, and other issues.

Hey thanks Richard!
Looks like I will forget about that idea.

Im thinking Ill be pretty happy with my exhaust and superchips in terms of added power. If for some reason Im not, I think my next option is to cut out the driver side floor panel; that way I can just flinstone myself for a little extra get up and go. =)
