Shift Kit for 545RFE and a programmer
Ok guys, I hate to bring up another thread with the word superchips up in it, so we will keep that word forbidden in this topic.
I want to do a shift kit by Transgo. I did searches on this forum, and couldnt come up with anything with a shift kit and a tuner working on the same vehical, but I found another page that discusses it when I did my google search.

Now the shift kit is said to be compatible with a programmer, as long as the line pressure resistor is left out. BUT, on the page that is linked, it says with the line pressure resistor left out, you cant even feel the shift kit.
So, question #1. Do I still get the benifits of less slippage in the transmission if I dont use the line pressure resistor?
And #2. Would it be safe to run a programmer with the line pressure risistor? It is stated that it might be too much pressure since my *tuner* increases line pressure slightly so the transmission might not be able to handle all the pressure together.
So whats your input? Anyone try this before? I really want to keep my engine tune but would like firmer shifting from the transmission.

My Superchips certainly gave me harder shifts, but nothing like a shift kit or tranny valve body. The reason I decided on the valve body is SCT does not tune the drive train. I would say try the harder shift with the SC and see if you like it.
the transgo kit is not very consistant on firmness, you can drive the same and sometimes it shifts firm, other times you would never know you have it. SC says they do NOT raise trans pressure, just reduce torque management so I left my resistor in. From what I have read if you want a real shift improvement buy a Sharadon stage III valve body.
Hey Blown, what VB do you have?
Just my 2c

The valve body I went with it is a Sharadon Performance. I've already mailed in a stock valve body so I should have it back within a week or so. Once I get it in I will give a report.

I don't remember there actually being a "stronger shift" option on the tuner. Superchips call it the "Enhance Shift Firmness" benefit. When I set my shift points higher, the tranny certainly shifted harder. That is why I was stacking the tuners for a while.

Blown287, I will try playing with the shift points and see what happens. I notice currenly that if I dont floor it, but give it alot of gas, the shifts are pretty nice. You feel it in your neck.
At WOT though, the shifts arent nearly as firm.
LB, have you run a superchips with your shift kit with success then?

I have run the SC and transgo with resistor for over 2 years now. When I installed the Transgo I also installed both new filters and about 14 QTS of ATF +4, I changed the fluid and filters 18 months later, and the fluid that came out was as clear and red as the new stuff. (moral of the story is change fluid and filter regularly and it will keep it alive). Bulkpart has the filters VERY cheap, just make sure to get new "O" rings for the flat filters.
I have heard nothing but good about the sharadon, waiting on a report Blown! I have an extra valve body to send as a core, just need to do it.
Trucky, back at ya!

Thanks LB! Thats what I wanted to here. A valve body is too involved for me I think, a shift kit is as far as I would go. I guess its time to start looking at how much this will cost as I dont want to install it myself. Is you shifting performance a lot better now with the shift kit and SC? I like the shift points with SC, just sometimes it shifts firm and other times it doesnt. Is this resistor that your not supposed to install just a plug that goes in the pressure line? For example, if it was a plug, could I just drill it out a slight bit to be safe with the tuner?
And a little off topic, but maybe you guys can help. When rolling to a stop sign at about a little less than 10mph and I get back on the gas before I come to a complete stop at 5mph, my RPMs jump up from like 1k to 1.5k without accelerating the truck. Almost like it is slipping, but it only does it when the truck is rolling at this slow pace. From a complete stop, its solid acceleration. It is an automatic, but I would describe it as when your driving a stick shift and you get on the gas slightly before you engage the clutch. And when the truck does start accelerating past 1.5k, you feel the slight hit from the transmission engaging but it isnt really hard. Just like letting the clutch out a little to fast after you got on the gas to early. I just want to know if this sounds normal for a truck with 100k on it. It has done it since I got it, and everything else feels normal except for a slight clunk in the shift into overdrive every now and again. I just had the fluid and filter changed so it cant be that.
