my first oil change was a disaster, i loosen the drain plug, put the container under the cross member, an all the oil went everywhere instead of the bucket, i was covered an so was the driveway, never again

Well, the filter was easy-mode, pointed right at me, with a nice little oil flow ramp to keep oil from spilling all over. (do you guys have this?)

drain plug looks like it's gonna leak on the cross member though...

just a bit at first...

but then it decided to have it's own way...

the only surprise was a pleasant one: it took an even 5 quarts *and* as much came out as went back in! BONUS! (heck, it's only got 35k miles, it better not be burning oil yet)

Warning: semi Thread hijack

Superdak, do you watch them change your oil and filter? There are so many horror stories I won't let any quick change place work on the truck unless I am in the shop watching. 2/20 of my co-workers (and i only spoke with 4 of them) have had trouble at different lube shops. When they are encouraged (ie commission) to get as many vehicles through they take shortcuts!

I am finally making the swap to synthetic Mobile 1 motor oil. Paid the extra for the mobile 1 filter as well, dang it is heavy compared to the Fram. I will install it tomorrow morning and make a new thread if I find something interesting or am bored enough to break out the camera.

I definitely don't have that ramp to direct the flow from the oil filter, that seems pretty handy.

That's because half the Fram is cardboard!
Also for anyone looking for a decent oil filter, most if not all of the Napa Gold oil filters are actually Wix filters made for Napa. I often use those, good price and a high quality filter.
