if its leaking and still under warrenty, take it to them, i would imagine that oil would be covered in the warrenty if they pull the pan

Is anything coming down from the crankshaft seal? Thats where mine leaked from and it cost about $300 to get it fixed at the dealer. The oil dripped down just right and went around the oil pan seal where it looked like it was the oil pan. A couple cans of brakleen and a close eye revealed it was coming from the front crankshaft seal though. The leaks in the front of the engine are a little hard to find sometimes with the fan blowing up there, along with if you do a lot of freeway driving or faster speeds. I would recommend cleaning it up and watching it to see where it comes from. You can go as far as getting a die kit and using that, but that might be a little overkill. If it turns out it is your oil pan gasket, try tightening the bolts around it lightly and that could fix it. I would stay away from any thing you add to your oil to stop leaks, just a way to cover up a problem and not actually fix it IMHO.

In the first picture though, right underneath the center of the crankshaft you can see where oil could be coming down, so thats where I would start out. If it was your oil pan, I would think it would leak from more than just the front, and you would probably be able to see it running all the way down the pan towards the back of the truck. A side note about the leak, if it only leaks while the engine is running, its your crankshaft seal. If it leaks while the engine is off, its something different.

If it were me, I would find where it was coming from and fix it/get it fixed. Its only going to get worse, and its going to start causing big messes all over the truck and your parking spot. It really wont cause any other problems than making a mess, as long as you keep an eye on your oil level. Keep us updated on what it is.

Looking at it, oil that was leaking from an oil pan would never leak towards the front of the truck, and then up (unless you were parked on a hill with the truck facing down for a period of time). My money is on the crankshaft seal.

I took mine to the dealership. Long story short, I put synthetic in and it started leaking so instead of my dad finding out and getting mad at me for using synthetic, I got it fixed fast by someone I could trust (or atleast they should know what they are doing). I dropped it off at 8, got a shuttle ride to work and picked it up at 6. Im pretty sure they were done around 3 though. Total came to $360 after everything and unfortunatly they used no vasaline before they raped me.

You can do it yourself. Apparently its not that tough of a job. You just have to pull off the harmonic balancer, and the seal just pops out and you lightly tap a new one in. Find a private shop to do it and you should be able to get it done for around $200 or less, and it should be done within the same day.

Just make sure where ever you take it, the job comes with a nice warranty. These seals are very common for leaking after being replaced because its trying to seal something that spins. If there is a defect in the crankshaft, it will leak again or it they dont properly grease the seal, there will be nothing to give the oil tight seal. So, make sure it comes with a warranty and watch it for the first few thousand miles to make sure everything stays dry.

Thank you mprohr! Im just happy when it happened on mine that it wasnt the oil pan gasket .... that looks a bit expensive because Im not to sure that it can be replaced with everything in place. Looks like the front end might have to be pulled apart a bit.
