Remote Start???
I want to install a remote starter on my 2007 Dakota ST w/ manual transmission. If you have done this in a vehicle w/ a stick shift, please tell me about it.
How do you make sure the vehicle is in neutral before it remotely starts? Can you recommend a good remote starter/security system kit? I installed an Ultra Starter on my last car but that is an automatic.
Any input would be appreciated?

it is never recomended to put one on a manual but it can be done, i did it on my service truck, i made a mount with a fork that slides over the shifter, it can only go over the shifter when in nuetral, it has a micro switch, so that when the fork is down it will allow the remote start to work, but the fork can never go down when it is in gear, and the trans will never go into gear if the fork is down, that is the way i could come up with something that is safe and fool proof,
i used to have a remote start in my 75 w/ a manual, untill my cousin set a gun down on my key chain and activated it, my dad had moved the truck an left it in gear, needless to say i had to replace two fences and retive my truck from the neighbors back yard, and fill in the craters where it got hung up and and sank its self to the axle, very interesting day, and luckly dad left it in reverse because my cousin parked his lowered civic in front of it ...

Thanks for the info. I don't think I could create my own device like that, or at least not one that I could trust. I'm looking for some type of kit that has something like you described.

I've known people to do it and disable the safety. However you have to be 100% sure you will never leave it in gear, one of the guys I know forgot and drove his car through the garage door when he hit the remote starter, luckily no cars were in the garage at the time.
Yeah I won't install a remote starter unless I can have something disable it when in gear.
