Yes Sir, that is how I was trouble shooting Trucky's thermostat on his fan controller.

take out the stat and put it in a boiling pot of water on the stove, you will see the stat open up right before your eyes. also the newer stats are fail safe, when they fail, they go into the open mode, thus not over heating the engine and causing damage, another thing to check on the radiator, run the truck upto temp, check the bottom rad hose and see if it is hot, if it is, than the system is circulating

interesting never knew that like I said mine only does it when the ac was on and only a couple time ill have to keep an eye on it this summer

 

yepp we use that on boats to at work. pretty cool to watch it work
