the power wire uses a resistor to "trick" the ECU into seeing cooler temps. the IAT sends out a voltage, that is modified by the resistor.

I've had my air temp sensor reloacted for quite some time as boost can give you 200+ degree temps, lol. It will cause no harm as you will get slightly more fuel vice less. Gives you better throttle response during the summer.
