So i didn't think with my dipstick
Well dumb *** me didn't really think when i went to top off my power steering fluid. Ohh power steering fluid in the garage that will work DOHHH. Our power steering pumps use ATF-4. Now i gotta try and flush the entire system out.

If that Honda ATF is not ATF+4 it could be. Our trucks specifically call for ATF+4 only.

The reason that Dodge switched to ATF-4 on our truck is due to the excellent performance that the redesigned fluid provides in hot and cold applications. Also they changed the seals on the power steering pump. Most older model seals will be destroyed by ATF-4 so you need to be careful on which application you use. Also mixing regular power steering fluid with ATF-4 like I just did will break down the ATF-4 and make it a useless fluid that will destroy your pump.
I will be flushing my entire system with Valvoline ATF-4 full synthetic.

Well i finally got around to doing the fluid flush... And boy oh boy am i glad i didnt use my driveway. What a mess lol. Probably should have come up with a better plan than forgetting to empty the pump reservoir before unhooking the return line and not having the splash pan in to correct position. Once i got the return line into the splash pan I had a friend turn on the truck which led to the return line slipping out and spraying fluid all over the place. But in the end i got lines and rack flushed out. The steering does feel a little better but i still think my rack is shot. I think it was shot before i put the wrong fluid in. On a plus side the pump doesn't make a sound now, nice and quite which is good!
