Question 06 Dakota Rear Shaking

Hello Everyone,

It would be great if you could do me a favor and try to diagnose a problem I have with my 06 Dakota Crew Cab 4X4. While turning left and right, there is a bad shake and a sound accompanied with it. If you guys could help me out and try to give me a few suggestions before I go spending a good amount of cash to fix it. Also, I am not very technical so if you could do your best to keep it in plain english that would be great.

Thank you all

I wonder if the Dakotas had the same "C" clip in the limited slip breaking like the Rams.

If the truck has a limited slip rear end and the rear end is serviced without the special limited slip friction modifier than the rear end will make some noise going around corners. Make sure that the rear end is serviced with the correct type of synthetic and that the friction modifier is added. To work in the friction modifier back the truck up in figure eights in a large parking lot. This increases the shear action in the clutch packs. Is the truck new to you? How many miles? Service history? Are all four tires (4 x 4)the same brand and size? Slow speed or high speed? Wide or tight corners? Additional info helps weed out false leads.
Good Luck!

your right one the money, i had the same problem and took it and had the rear end serviced and new modifier added, drove out of the shop and within 2 or 3 turns, the problem was gone. the modifier breaks down and has to be changed.

Agreed. Mine was starting to chatter pretty good around turns. Replaced the differential fluid with the friction modifier and all is good.
