Default Air intakes... ?? What kind are you running?

What kind of intakes are you guys running? I know you don't get tremendous gains, but the sound is sweet...

It also seems that the stock box would give "colder" air, so Maybe a K&N OE filter? Where as the intakes would bring in More Hot air...

SO what's better, less cold air or more hot air? (If my train of thought is correct in the first place.)

Would there be anything wrong with $65 intake from Ebay? I had one on my old s-10, bought it from "chromeintakes" and it was actually of very nice quality, I used my K&N recharge on it and never had any problems...

But just looking for your guys opinions/suggestions.

And while your at it, how do you guys feel about throttle body spacers, such as AFE...?

Thanks guys.

I got mine off ebay, one of those chrome tube things with a K&N cone knockoff fior about $60. I wanted to see what these were all about before I plunked down $400 for a real K&N (why they have to be so frickin expensive is beyond me). I don't know about any appreciable gains in performance/mileage, but I do really love that sound, brings back memories of my 4-barrel days. The fit is not exactly that great, the MAF sensor just barely reaches the new location. I got my eye on a spacer as well, but, like you, want to hear from anyone who has one first. (BTW, I am now looking to buy a used cold air intake, A REAL K&N, cause I refuse to pay what they want for a new one, all it is is some plastic tubing and an air filter.....common, $400?)

Hey Buckmaster,

TB spacers are only good for paper weights, dont waste your time. Theyre are questionable gains behind them, but even Airaid says they produce no HP on the dyno, only torque which sounds like a b.s. line to me. The only good thing I hear about TB spacers is that people like the whistle sound. Otherwise, IMO stick your money in to another mod.

On my truck I currently have the Airaid Modular Intake Tube. Their CAI can be bought in 2 peices, so if you dont have the money right away you can buy half now and half later. Ill be buying the Airaid Quickfit Filter to finish off my intake this week, as the flow should be much better than the K&N drop in I have.

If youre looking to just do a K&N drop in, let me know and you can have mine for cheap. I have 15k on it and I cleaned it for the first time a couple weeks ago.

The intakes do have shielding that seal the intake and will draw air from by the fender like the stock intake. The Airaid actually uses the bottom of the stock air box, and seals the top of box to the hood when their large filter is used.

If youre going to do a $65 intake from Ebay, go spend the $65 at the hardware store and the auto store and make your own using a quality filter. With Ebay you risk getting a knock off filter that really isnt a name brand, even if they say it is. So if a home brew intake is the way your looking to go, just pick up some PVC and a name brand performance filter.

Its all what you want to do with your truck. Some guys swear by the home brews because they can do just as well as a name brand. Personally I like the name brand intakes because they look better. Different strokes for different folks.

im running the 63 series k&n I bought from a guy on here cheap I've noticed increased throttle response. I recently Put my CAI back in and after running the stock air box for bout a week for due to needing to clean the filter and can really notice the difference. after swapping back and forth. if im not playing with the gain in hp it seem to of increased my mileage. I have also noticed that at night when the sun goes down and its cooled off the truck will pull for a lot longer in the 63 series (plastic) they say that there is almost a 10hp gain compared to the 73 series which is only about 7hp gain (chrome steel or aluminum IDK) the reason being is the plastic allows for cooler air being brought into the motor. and yeah It sounds SSSWWWEEET!!!!! im not entirely sure on the numbers in hp gain but I think those are close

I have the chromeintake one also. Like the sound and my MPG actually went down. Guess I liked the sound too much. I also got one for my van and fitted it on. have a grand caravan with the 3.8 and it makes it sound soo much better also.
