Default Advice Wanted for Replacement of Brakes & Rotors

I know this topic has been covered, but I can not get a final solution to my brake/rotor replacement question.

My rotors are beginning to go. The front end vibrates a lot when I brake moderately at decent speeds. I was planning to replace the brakes and rotors with a friend of mine at home. What tools do I need? What type of brakes and rotors would you buy? I'd like to order them online if possible.

I typically like to buy the best of the best when it comes to quality, but I don't want to spend $400 in rotors + brake pads. I suppose this is a "Duh", but I want awesome stopping power . I hope I can meet both those requirements without breaking the bank .

Thanks!

Well I had asked the question a few weeks ago on how many miles members got on their factory brakes. It was all over the place. I just had mine checked and I was told at 58k I still had another 45 to 50k left. Oh ya that will get me way past sell truck time. Though I did research thinking I was going to need breaks. EBC was my choice. Check them out.

EBC slotted with Green Stuff pads is my next brake/rotor set up.

I had over 100k on my stock rotors and they only shook slightly. I figured it was time to replace them though and ended up with new rotors that were worse than my originals with all those miles. Those were also my stock pads, the previous owner never replaced anything up there.

Well, I just installed these about 3hrs ago:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...#ht_3319wt_982

I have used these pads on my 06 2500 Cummins, they worked well. The rotors are "stock-style" (fin design) with the addition of having been drilled and slotted.

How can you go wrong for $122.56 delivered for a set of rotors and ceramic pads?

Dave

Ugh, I don't know how to parts or any mechanical work on trucks, and I never really come on here eccept to ask for help.

But I bought my 2005 Dakota used with 53,000kms on it and it's at 64,000kms right now. I have an appointment next week to get new front rotors (rusted), break pads and calipers (one of them the boot/rubber part tore open) and my truck shakes pretty good when slowing down at a high speed (80km+).

$1000 it will cost me !!!!

Well just to make sure they weren't screwing around and lieing, me and my dad took off the wheels and took a look and seems legit (because my dad and brother would be able to fix it, but they don't want to because of the hassle). So the parts would be about $800 then the labour is $200. Even went to a place that sells parts and again parts were about $700-$800. I got a buddy that works at a Dodge dealer and said he would do it, but I've asked him to find me a total cost like 10x and he hasn't gotten back to me, other than telling me the parts would be about $700-$800. So I figure pay the extra $200 for someone who knows what they are doing and doing it properly...and comes with a 3 year warranty which I most likely wont need anyways.

Not to hijack this thread form the thread starter, but same type of topic.

Honestly, I have no idea what I'm looking for. The site just has a list of rotors for my vehicle... I'm new when it comes to buying these things and how they perform. To me, they all look the same. Obviously, I just want stopping power. Has anyone else tried the ones from ebay?

I guess I'm looking to spend 150 or less on a PAIR of rotors. I want the best stopping power.... As far as brakes.... any ideas? Model number?
