If you only see the muffler and (maybe) a resonator attached to the tailpipe, you should be ok.
I stopped by my local Meineke shop in town today to price out true duals (from each cat back, two knockoff magna mufflers, 2 1/2 aluminized all the way back with 18" stainless tips of my choice)...$500.00 installed!
Might just do it.....

Wow thats not a bad deal at all! also thanks for the help

You can see in the second pic the offset is only one way, so leaving the front reso in was not possible cause it did not line up with the center inlet of the muffler.
Thanks for the pics and info. Now I want to know why if you have a 2005 v8 dakota and I do to, how come mine did not have resonators on it? lol.....

That's a good question, thought you had the H.O. motor? You don't have the rear one either?

I do have the H.O. v8, I just thought that the only difference between the reg v8 and the H.O. v8 were cams and other engine eternals, never thought the exhaust would be different. As far as there being one in the back I did not check since I was only concerned with the front one to see if that system would fit properly. Anyone else with a H.O. v8 know if their exhaust has or had 0,1, or 2 resonators? I will check tomorrow when I get back from work or before work if i have time. I do not want to go out right now at 2 am to look lol...

ther back one is easy to see. it's about a foot from the end of the tailpipe, right after the rear axle.

Hmm, I think I will just stick with the single in-dual out config...Not worth $150.00 more for "true" duals....

I will be getting:
3" in, 2.5" out, magna or flo style muffler, aluminized, plus two 18" stainless tips of my choice.

$350.00 Installed

Hammond, is that going to be a mandrel bent system?

You might want to research if it would even matter, but regular bent piping can get pretty restrictive. And for $350 .... youre getting pretty close to the range of getting a premade system which you could install yourself and it wouldnt be a knock off brand muffler.

Nope, not mandrel bent...but I am OK with that! With the exception of the Y-pipe connection, the rest of the system (and hangers) will be welded on.
I gotta get rid of this 2 resonator/giant muffler system, it is killing me

Will let you know Thursday night how I make out

FYI, I am very dissapointed with my flowmaster super 44, waaaaay too much sound in the cab, unless I'm coasting, and now, after only 2 months, it sounds like something has come loose inside, when I floor it it sounds like "BLAT" instead of "ROAR". Looks like a $200 mistake (this was one of those ebay catback systems).

That would be contributed to the Flowmaster muffler itself and not the system correct? Did the flomaster muffler come with a warranty? If so I would purchase a magnaflow to replace it then send the flowmaster back for a refund or warranty replacement then sell the one they send you on craigslist or classifieds on this forum and use the money to offset the magnaflow muffler.
