I got my truck about a month ago and I thought the warranty transfered automatically. Well I got the title to my truck in the mail today and I also got a letter from Chrysler saying the 70k mile power train warranty does not transfer automatically and if i want to keep the warranty I need to take it to a Dealership and have them inspect it and pay them a $150! lol... is this true?
The only thing that was in the glove box was the owners manual and all it said was the warranty can only be transferred to the 2nd owner which I am. I did not see anything about a $150 fee. I will call the dealership tomorrow. Even if its $150 i guess it would be worth it for about 30k miles and/or 2 years power train warranty. I guess they get you coming and going.....
yes the transfer fee is 150 to the second owner... make sure you didnt pay the 150 in hidden prices for the purchase of the truck also. Is it worth it... YES
brian what year is your truck and how many miles are on it?
2005 around the 45k mile mark. I am gonna call chrysler today and set up and appointment for the inspection to hopefully be done tomorrow. I guess I should be happy they at least notified me it had to be inspected for the warranty to transfer. Since apparently if you dont transfer it after a certain amount of time the warranty lapses. I dont anticipate driving the truck more then 5k miles a year at most so $150 for 2 years/30k mile power train warranty is a fairly good bargain. I am just used to it being transfered automatically at no cost on other vehicles.
You have to be careful though, Brian. Those warranties typically or like 5 years, 70k, or 7 years, 70k (whichever comes first). Since your truck is an 05 you may have already hit, or are close to that mark. They start counting when the truck goes into service.
I wish I knew that, I didn't even think about transferring the warranty. My 05 has right at 50k. Wonder if I should call the dealer about it as well....

It is a 2005 that was originally sold in august of 2005 and the power train warranty is for 7 years and 70k miles so that would leave me 2 years and 2 months and/or about 30k left of power train warranty.

Keep in mind you have to be the 2nd owner to be able to transfer it, if you are the 3rd or later owner then you cannot transfer it. Also if I read the letter Chrysler sent me correctly you only have 60 days after purchase to transfer it. If you fall within that criteria then you should be able to transfer the warranty.
