Question New in the forum with some questions?

Hi to everyone:

I'm new in the forum, I'm the owner recently of a 2010 2wd CrewCab Big Horn Dakota. My last truck was a 2006 2wd Crewcab Chevy Colorado.
I'm very happy with my new truck, but I have 2 questions that are ?!#$% my mind!!

First:

Why our trucks have this ugly muffler at the end, when there's a big one before? This one reduce the sound or what? what's the purpose? If I cut it how it will sound or what would be the effect?

Second:

This is my 3rd truck, the first one was manual trans, the second was the colorado and it was automatic trans, now the Dakota is automatic too.
But I figured out that at least with my truck, have a hard shift, I mean when I reduce the speed I can feel the trans. get the shifts to lower until 1 st. It this normal?
Also when I'm down a hill it feels like been driving an manual trans. in 1st shift. This is all normal?
Is my first time with Dodge and I really don't felt this when I made the test drive ( it was very short).

Well Thanks anticipated..

First of all, welcome to the forum. There is a ton of info on here.

The one on the end is a resonator, basically an empty muffler, to help reduce sound. You can remove it, most do that first thing, along with replacing the entire stock system with a free flowing cat back system. Not too sure what to say for the second problem, I have an 05 and mine does not do that. It sort of will if I'm in thr tow/haul mode, but not that noticeable.

Boricua! Victor, llegastes al sitio correcto! Welcome to the forum from Texas. I was born in Carolina. Sometimes they feel like they shift hard but mine was like that. I had a problem like that and the dealer changed the tranny selenoid and all was great after. Here you will find all the info you need!

Hector.....

PS> Almost forgot! Post some pics of your truck! We love pics!!!

Welcome aboard and that is one nice looking truck. I was going to help with the exhaust question but dakota_raven and jkeaton pretty much nailed it.
