Default exhaust resonator question?

I believe thats what its called...

I think i read on here a couple days ago that someone was thinking about removing the resenator right at the end of the exhaust system.

my question is basically is this a good idea?

is there any gains or loses in... performance... sound... anything?

Just want to know some info...

thanks for the help guys!

The sound and performance you will get out of it is awesome. The two biggest ways factories make an engine quiet is to #1 restrict the intake and #2 restrict the exhaust. Both have negative impact on performance.

I removed everything from the y-pipe to the back axle and left the rear resonator on, sound is pretty good, but a lot of back pop. and rasping. I would have removed everything if they had not placed the rear resonator on the angle of the exit of the exhaust. Going to be buying a Magnaflow dual this summer.

I test drove a Dak before I bought the one I have that had just the rear resonator removed, I did not notice any difference with or without it once I got mine that had the rear one still on. I don't think just removing the rear one does much. Mine (05 4.7 non-HO) had 2 resonators, one before the muffler and the one behind the rear axle. I removed everything and installed a fm super 44, single in, dual out.

yeah i just have the 3.7 6 cylander so i doubt it will have much of an effect... I seems that im kinda getting different oppinions on it too... as of now i dont see it worth cutting into my exhaust with no intentions of buying a new exhaust soon...

If it is worth it someone please prove it to me

Truckin Magazine tested a Ram with stock exhaust and then aftermarket exhaust. The gain was 30 rear wheel horse power.

Believe it or not, 30 rear wheel horse power is a significigant improvement.

That alone.....I couldn't tell you. I can tell you this. Your stock exhaust system is super restrictive and your resonator is a part of that. If you want your engine to inhale and exhale more efficiently (more efficient=more power), get rid of what is restricting it.

I have Headers, Hi-flow cats and true duals because I'm not a fan of glowing red cats or hearing my exhaust back up.

Blown do you have to have a cross over pipe for true duals? What's the deal with those?

i removed everything from the Y back and installed a Borla exhaust si/so and it sounds and perform better. i also got a k&n drop in filter(can't afford the cai, yet) and the engine breaths way better!
