Default Hope for end to steering issues

Well I ordered my steering shaft today! I hope this will fix my issues with my steering.

It has come down to the steering shaft, or the rack.

In case someone is looking for the Mopar part # 55351234-AC

There is some for sale on eBay for about 40% less than the dealer.
If you need a link let me know!

I will keep you posted.

Steering issues I am having.
- Turning has become harder
- Front end feels like its about to fall apart
- Slight pop when reversing and turning the wheel clockwise
- Play in steering wheel
- No looseness felt in steering shaft while someone turns the wheel and you have your hand on the steering shaft
- Wheels seam to track in whatever direction they feel like while driving
- Sure I have more just cant think

Also:
- Ball joints are new
- Tie rod ends are new
- Shocks are new

So I know it is not any of those.

I will keep you folks posted on the progress. I will try and take lost of pics and do a write up for you!!

I would try the rack first. Mine had the same wandering, (felt like my old power wagon), and the rack was leaking inside the boot. Pull the boots back (where the inner tie rod ends are). If there is fluid in there, the rack is leaking, and it will cause a power steering pressure problem. Mine is an 08 with 40,000 miles.

I checked the entire system for leaks and none have been found. I also have a clicking in the steering which is why I am leaning to the steering shaft. The shaft is only $170 and I can install it free at my friends shop. So I will be trying the less of the two evils.

Sounds like the rack to me. It's getting pretty common now that some of these trucks are long in the tooth.

If that looseness comes and goes while making turns, its probably your rack. I hear they are pretty wimpy for the size and weight of this truck. When I had larger tires and a leveling kit, I replaced THREE power steering racks under warranty. Once I went back down to a factory size tire and took the kit out, my steering has been perfect.

I had most of the same problems the past few months. Finally took it to my cousin who's a mechanic and he replaced the steering shaft. It fixed the problem and in fact, he said when he got the part from the dealership they told him they keep a few in stock because it is a common problem.
