An easy way to look at our 4.7L engines is this. Pistons are connected to rods and rods are connected to the crank. The crank controls the pistons compression and exhaust strokes.

The valve train is in on the heads. Cams shafts turn in harmony with the crank via timing chains and sprockets. Camshafts control the valve intake and exhaust. On the heads you also have the fuel injectors and spark plugs.

Basically every engine does #1 intakes air #2 compress air/fuel #3 combust compliments of the spark plug #4 exhaust

Yes Sir, that was my latest tuning hurdle. My WOT 3rd gear shifts were really lean. As soon as I get this sucker back together I will run the new blower tunes and see where I'm at.

I stood and stared at that naked block for about 10 mins today, it was beautiful.
Sidenote, I don't think there is such a thing as V4.

Its been fun so far. I made this procedure for pulling the heads with the timing chains still in place. All the pubs and experts say the chains have to come out, but I thought up a way to pull them with the chains in place, lol.

That 3rd cylinder is the point of fail for the headgasket. I shop-vacced about 8 oz of coolant out of it, lol.
