Default Alarm/remote starter

I'm interested in installing an alarm and maybe a remote starter (not sure about the starter yet). Can anyone recommend a good one that isn't too hard to install. I've installed remote starters before but never on a stick shift and never installed an alarm. I would prefer one that has some aux relays.

I have installed a remote starter made by Directed Electronics and I didn't like it. I replaced it with an Ultra Starter and that one was much better.

Thanks

Yeah I hear good things about viper. I really like the one where you can control it from your iphone/ipod but they charge a monthly fee for that and I have an android phone.

Dakota_raven, it is possible to put remote start on a stick shift but I need to buy one that is made for a stick.

IT is possible because I had almost done it on my 98 Dak with stick. I think it will be a pita at first because you have to do something like put it in nuetral then the parking brake on and then get out of the vehicle in under 30 seconds to let it arm. I had a compustar and maybe it was just theres that had such an awful way to let the alarm know that the truck was in nuetral so it could be started remotely

Default Yeah

Thanks for the tips.

I already knew that Directed makes those brands but the one that I bought a while ago didn't have any of those brands stamped on it. It just said Directed Electronics (It was an older model).

Last time i checked, Smart Start didn't support Android (just blackberry and iphone). I assumed it would support it eventually so I just checked again and it does now. Cool but I still don't want to pay the monthly fee. I might try to experiment with using the WiFi on my phone to control the starter/alarm but not until I get an alarm and install it.

Directed makes Viper, Valet, Avital, Python, Sidewinder... if you didnt like the directed starter, you probably wont like these, as they all have the same components in them. Directed sent me to their 2 week school. "The Snake Pit"

I am running this alarm/remote start.

I havent picked up the smart start module... but it will work with android phones...

oooh you have not experienced the awesomeness Remote Start makes life in the winter so much more bearable. Imagine 3 or so inches of snow, 0 degree weather and the wind blowing. You can peer through the window click the buttons and viola. The truck starts, warms up, melting 90% of the snow and its ready to roll and you didnt even have to get as cold as you would, cleaning the truck off or waiting for it to warm up Its def an awesome feature You are right though, the ol trusty way works well too, its just this is a huge convenience.

OK I am done with the love talk over the remote start
