Maybe hes worried about one exhaust pipe being longer than the other and he's trying to make it more efficient by creating a scavenging effect from the cross pipe? lol Its like fluid dynamics only with more variables
Honestly though for a semi stock application I dont think you will ever see the gains from it.
Btw kinda off topic, but I just took my Harley's exhaust system from a equalizer piped system to a non-equalizer. After research I found the difference wasnt too noticeable but the sound was better... I didnt notice much power loss, a tad but it wasnt anything that the tuning didnt take care of
but the sound is pretty badass

Well, I won't steal Eric's thunder but the basis of the "H" pipe is to create higher torque while the "X" pipe is designed to provide top end horsepower.
