Default 06 Dak Rear Axle Gear Oil

Doing the gear oil change for a friend of mind tomorrow. He doesn't have limited slip, but not sure if it's an 8 1/4 or 9 1/4.
Does anyone know what weight oil is used for each axle? If it's the same for both then cool, but, if not, I'll just check the axle when I get there tomorrow to do it.

Thanks guys.

75w140 I used Mobile1 this time. Next time i am going to be using AMSoil. I would also recommend adding about 4oz of of Limited Slip additive to the diff

Look at your Diff and count the bolts. If you have 10 bolts its a 8.25, if you have 12 bolts you have a 9.25

Front Axle gets 75W-90
Rear Axle gets 75W-140 (Both 8.25 & 9.25)
I run Mobil1 fully synthetic in mine.

Thanks for the replies on the oil weight guys. I appreciate the fast response.

I will check the axle, but both use the 75w140, so it's not really a concern of mine. He is an older gentlemen friend, and I am doing a favor for him since he doesn't know a whole hell of a lot about cars, and can't really get under his truck anyway. I've been servicing his dak for awhile now, but couldn't for the life of me remember what weight the rear diffs used, and I couldn't find it in the Repair manual posted in the stickies.

Anyway, thanks again guys.

Is synthetic required by Dodge or is dino fine?

depends he can use 75w90 in the rear as well...if you dont do alot of towing you can use that in the rear!

He doesn't do much towing at all, but he does haul land waste, gravel, dirt and that kinda stuff.

okay well then i would go with 75w140 then just to be on the safe side...and i would put limited slip in it anyway just incase it does...but also helps lubricate and protect! I go with Royal Purple Synthic...check it out good stuff!

Yep the guys have the right weights. And synthetic is recommended. Some guys think the dino oil is ok in the diffs because they are just gears. They prove a good point, but I would still use synthetic. IIRC the rear takes 2.25 qts and the front takes 1.75qts. on the 9 1/4
