Hey there, I've been creeping on the forum here for a while, and just thought I would jump in with a quick reply as I was going through what sounds to be this exact same thing for a while with my truck. What I was experiencing was a vibration any time I touched the brakes. If they were cold it wasn't as bad but as they warmed up it got worse. As well the higher the speed that I was braking from the worse the vibrations were. This past weekend I took all the brakes apart and cleaned everything up. I also lightly ran a wire brush over the surface of the shoes and the pads to clean out any ingrained brake dust. Reassembled everything, torqued the wheels back on and went for a road test. Been all around town and out on the highway for a couple days now and it's smooth as can be when I brake.

what kind of lugs are they. If they dont have that flange in them that centers the wheel maybe its not holding the wheel in place when braking.

I know that shake you're trying to describe. Mine has been doing it for awhile now and it is progressively getting worse. When I exit an off ramp from the highway, the shake is unbelievable. I was told my rear axle bearings are going bad, but I don't know how much that has to do to affect the braking, which is the only time I get the vibration. I'm living with it for now but it's driving me nuts.

Yea if you dont torque the lugs down to the same for each of them over time from them heating up and cooling down can cause them to warp

The mechanic probably didnt explain it right. You dont need "spacers" you need hub centric "RINGS" like these. This way your not pushing your wheel out, your just fixing the hub "hole" so it's a proper fit http://www.motorsport-tech.com/hub_rings.html

I had the same situation when i went to get my ProComp wheels installed. The guy at Firestone told me the same "you heed hubcentric rings" in order to run those wheels. I called ProComp and the told me that their wheels don't use hubcentric rings and to take it to a place that specializes on trucks and installing after market wheels. I took her to 4wheel parts and 20 min later i had mi wheels on. They told me that the guy from Firestone didn't know what he was talking about and that i wasn't the first one coming to them with the same problem/question...

have u checked ur rotors? mine were doing the same thing a shimy when applying brakes and it get worst at higher speeds and the steering wheel would move a good amount found out my rotors had warped. had to get new ones.. now my rotors are new and stuff and everything is fine. but when im at high speeds and hit the brakes it does move abit but no where when before i think its just the rotors got cool or because my wheels are unbalance lol

FWIW, I replaced my stock pads/rotors with the performance drilled/slotted rotors from brakeperformance.com about a year ago thinking the stock rotors were warped. Didn't help at all. Wasn't there a big TSB thread awhile back about a rear axle issue with these trucks causing bad vibrations? What would I need to do to go that route at the dealership?
