Default Bass tubes

Hey guys,
I just got done installing 4 Polk DB651s in all of my doors. No suprise that the speakers are extremly bright with little bass. Even after fiddling with the bass, mid and treble, I have realized I should just add a bass tube instead of messing up the speakers by overpowering the stock head unit .... and I want to keep the stock head unit even though a $100 aftermarket would be better.

So Im looking at a Bazooka and I want to wire it in with a high level from one of the rear speakers since I have read this is the best for these woofers. I would like to go as big as possible, but I have a feeling it will be their smallest coming in at 6 inches.

Does anyone have one in their truck?

I would love to hide it behind the seat, but I cant figure out how to get behind there on the drivers side. Any input on how to get the back of the seat out/down? Ive seen pictures with people having shallow mount subs back there. And would a 6-7" cylinder fit behind there? Otherwise I will just mount it on the rear floor with a quick disconnect. I know I need to do something for some more bass, and a real subwoofer probably wont yield the best results with a stock head unit. Thanks for any input.

I had back in the 80's the original Bazooka Bass Tubes and they were awesome. I had two 10 inch bazookas powered with 1 Alpine 800 watts two channel amp, 2 - 6x9, 3 way speakers on the back, 2 - 5 1\2, 2 way on the doors, 2 super tweeters on the pilars powered with a 800watts four channel amp, a crossover and a Commander V equalizer (that was the sh^@#t back then) and a Clarion cassette radio on a 1985 Mazdza RX7. Right now the technology has changed 150% from back then and you can get better sound and lowder without all the crap that we had to use back then. I don't know how are the bazooka tubes made right now but when i had mine they weighted like 20-25 lbs each.

Well my buddy bought a bazooka tube from a guy at my work for 75 bucks. it looked like a nitrous bottle, i hooked it up to my amp (500RMS) and that thing actually hit really good. i was really surprised by it. hooked it up to my buddys car and now the sub blew and i helped him by sumthing sum what cheap sub but should last longer. but i would ahve to say dude buy what u think might do it but look into it. now if u want to put sum good stuff in and keep factory head unit but have a kick *** system i been hearing alot of good things about this http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/view/pxe-h660/

it allows u to have that kick *** system without redoing the head unit. am im sure with ebay and stuff u can find that thing alot cheaper. good luck my friend. btw i got a 10in alpine sub...in a 35 dollar ported box from best buy this thing its hard!!! harder then my buddys 2 10s.

Thanks for the input everyone.

I would love to do a real subwoofer, but Im on a budget. I could run up the store charge I just paid off, but I would rather not. lol. I dont really want to spend more than $250, which doesnt buy much.

Im really thinking about the bass tube just to add some depth to my sound. I lost some bass after the new speakers and I want it back. I am going to the outlet mall this weekend where they have a sony store. The last times I have been there they have had a 10" XPLOD in an enclosure for $200. If I can get an amp for around $100, I could probably swing that.

Im not looking for something that will shake windows and rattle my license plate. Just some depth.

Rengnath... I am an engineer for a wood working company. One of our divisions builds speakers. I design and do all the programing for the machines. If you want a custom box just ask. I will make it for you pretty cheap. I can make it out of any material. Best part is since you are just north you can always come down and see the shop and we can custom fit it.

Offer is on the table.

I've never understood why replacing factory speakers = loss of bass. You would think it woul be opposite, but I have replaced many a factory speaker with higher wattage good stuff (Alpine, Pioneer, etc), but always lose bass. I'm sure it has something to do with the amps from the factory head unit, but like now, I have the infinity sound system, and granted it is not that loud, but it has really good, deep bass, even at lower volumes, but I can guarantee if I upgraded my speakers, I would lose that.
