Default The 4.7l Power Curve

Alright guys,

On a slightly modified 4.7l, where will I see most of my power?

From what I see in the dyno sheets that I pull up, it seems the highest power comes in around 3k RPM and is done by 5k RPM. Can anyone clarify that this is infact, true?

Now, Im questioning this in order to get my truck to 100mph or so, as fast as possible tuning the trans. Im looking to modify my 1-2 and 2-3 shift. From what I see in the dynos, would it be benificial to shift out of 1st as soon as my SC tuner will allow at WOT? Im thinking either this will give me better acceleration in the bottom of 2nd, or it will bog me down and I would better off using the top of 1st even though the power curve dives around 5k RPM. Any opinions?

Ive realized 3rd gear isnt the greatest for acceleration, so I currently have 2nd gear riding until redline. Would it be better to get out of 2nd fast as well, or will 3rd bog down the engine too much and actually cause me to lose time?

I know I can just try shift patterns out, but it does take a fair amount of time to program and reprogram the truck so Im looking for a good starting point.

Thanks everyone.

I dont know i dound that if i let it shift out of 2nd sooner it realy slowed down alot into 3rd. you allmost have to wind out 2nd gear to get good power out of 3rd.

Ive found that anything over 5800rpm is usless so i wouldent take it over that.

Thats what I was thinking about my 2-3 shift. When I tried burying the needle when the truck was stock I actually found it difficult because it seemed the truck shifted out of 2nd too early.

1-2 on the other hand .... Im thinking the bottom of 2nd may be faster than the top of 1st. But Im not sure.

Sonnax will be delievered today and installed tomorrow. And I already have the transmission tuning with Superchips so the Torque Managment that I removed already shaved off some time for my 0-60.

2nd gear is the greatest part of the 4.7L powerband. For me its 25-70mph @ WOT.

Thanks Blown. Im changing the settings on the truck to get out of 1st as quick as possible and Ill ride 2nd until it wont allow. Right now I ride 2nd from about 45-85mph, but I have 3.55 gears.

Alright,
Reprogrammed the truck. I have it shifting out of 1st at 5300RPM and in to 2nd at 5850RPM. I havent had it up fast enough to get in to 3rd since I was on my lunch break, but now the truck pulls solid up to 60mph. I cant believe I didnt do this sooner. There used to be a dead spot around 40mph. Now it shifts it in to 2nd where it starts in the 3k RPM range and uses the power available there.

No worries. With the new High Load valve springs I can go up to 6,700 rev limiter and shift at 6,500 rpms so that will put me at about 80-85 mph in 2nd gear before shift to 3rd. Sometime down the road I'm going to switch to the 3" blower drive pulley and then it will be crazy.

I'm glad your getting the most out of your 2nd gear pulls.
