Turbo Kit
Hey just tossing an idea around and wanting to know the pros and ons and some extra info. I have an 06 SLT v8 and I was thinking about getting the universal sts turbo kit and mounting the turbo in front of the rear tire and having a side exit exhaust. Does anyone know the max horsepower the standard 4.7 can handle and what would be other problem areas that anyone knows of when using a power adder.
Blown287 has ran 14psi without blowing it up but he has ALOT of work done to suppert it. With a stock motor and a sts kit i personally wouldent run more than 8-10 psi. And as for max hp (correct me if im wrong) i dont think anyone really knows at this point.

I would rather go the Watson route. that way you have tuning and fuel along with the turbos. either way you go, you need to have intake charge pipes made.
I would also suggest going with a "turbo" grind cam like Blown has. (Blown, that is what your grind is specified as right?) As well as headers, better cats, and a good set of head studs. (these are just the basics for any motor adding boost to an N/A motor.)

Yes the STS turbo performs better with stock exhaust manifolds because they retain the heat. Header loose to much heat for the turbo. Most of the guys that put header had to end up wrapping them because of heat lost.

I guess I have always just figured you had to wrap headers... Or go the expensive ceramic route.

The problems I've had with boost.
#1 Motor Mounts. Vulcanized Rubber will not hold a high HP engine. I've broken two sets of stock motor mounts.
#2 Blown Head Gasket. No bid deal, changed it out in my Garage.
Other than that, I haven't had any trouble. On the flip side, I know of 6 boosted 4.7Ls and five of them have issues.
