Default 4-pin Trailer Harness

Hey guys,

I ordered some new LED accessories for the truck today. One is a 5 function brakelight bar, and I would like to use a harness to wire it up.

First question: Whats the difference between a 4-pin and 7-pin harness? I need the taillight bar to recieve running, brake, reverse, and directional signals.

Next queston: My truck didnt come with the tow package. Do I have a wiring harness already, hidden somewhere in the back of the truck? A guy I was talking to with a Ram had one hidden in the rear bumper and it just needed to be pulled out.

Last question: Can someone tell me what each wire controls on the trailer harness? I assume Ill be using a 4-pin, and I need to run wires to under the doors to control amber running and directional lights.

Thanks for any help

Your gonna need a 4 pin and you might have one hidden because i did but i didnt work. So if you need a new 4 pin plug get one at autozone for 7 bucks and tap it in to the tail lights it took me 10 min because all the wires are labeled. P.S. dont forget pics after the install!!

Oh, Im pumped for this install. I spent a little more than what HIDs wouldve costed, but I think this will be cooler. Where was your harness hidden? And from what I have found online, it looks like if I need reverse lights I need to tap in to that wire seperatly. If I need to wire the harness, where do I run the wires from? Just pick a taillight and tap in to those?

The harness was tied to my hitch. You will need to tap into both lights for the turn signals and for the reverse just pick a light just use a test light and it will take you like 20 min.

Check out this website. This tells about all of the different wiring options, and what each wire is for.

Hope that this helps.

Nothing underneath there for me! I thought I was going to get lucky, but I guess not. Looks like Ill be soldering one in, but atleast I can wire in everything where I need it.

Just ordered one of these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Now all I have to do is plug this harness in, tap in to the reverse light and run that wire seperate and Im done. I figured the $25 was easier than messing around with tapping in to existing wires. This will look cleaner as well, IMO. I love plug-and-play! Ill also be able to splice in to these wires on the harness for the LED running light strips so I can pull everything off the truck if necessary and return it to stock.

4 pin L/R turn signals, brake lights, running lights.
7 pin is L/R Turn signals, brake lights, Running lights, trailer brakes, hot wire, and negative wire.
