This is my first time working with car audio so I want to confirm a few things. I bought the wire harness adapter shown in the picture. The head unit I bought was previously installed in a honda so I would need to cut all wires coming from the radio connector and resolder wires onto the dakota adapter. Then find a 12V always on source such as cig. lighter for the red wire of the adapter.
What do you guys think about adding the amp I have for powering the rear speakers and possibly sub.

jkeaton:why are you going with 5.25" speakers and not 6.5"
rugger226: how would you hide the cable up to the mirror? I'll look into the hertz audio speakers.
If the cord is long enough run it up the piller and across the headliner.

No problem, anything audio is good.

Thanks six_shooter, good info there.

I hope to install it in the next few days so I'll see if it's long enough.

Thanks to all that replied.

I put the alpine type s speakers in my truck and I love them. They have a lot of bass for a 6.5 speaker and they sound really good. For the mic I have mine on the sun visor and it works grate. If the person on the other end ever says that they cant hear me I just pull the visor down a little bit and problem solved.

So everything is installed and working. The wire harness adapter makes it real easy. I went with 6.5" Kicker speakers in the doors and I'm real happy with the sound. I installed the bluetooth mic on the rear view mirror like was suggested and it's working nicely.
The single din adapter mount is better than having holes in the dash but I'm not crazy about the look. I might look for a used centre trim panel and mod it to fill in the ears and maybe go with a double din head unit.
I'm still playing with the colours since I can set the buttons and lcd separately to any colour.

Sound real nice with deep base. No comparison to the standard factory speakers. The doors feel heavier now

The Single DIN adapter you installed is the Scosche kit...... I agree that look is kinda weird. You can also try the kit from Metra. It doesn't position the radio in the center, but rather the top or bottom, and then provides for a small storage bin with the excess space. I have both, and am using the Schoche now (same as you), but am modding the Metra to accept a larger radio as well as modding a spare dash center bezel to accept the larger radio also. I got the center bezel trim panel for 25 bucks are a local yard, and I also bought some carbon fiber vinyl to cover it with !!

Yep, the ears look dopey no matter what you do. I'm gonna get rid of them, although not sure if I can squeeze a double DIN into my 05.

I'm in Canada and I paid $75.00 per pair from crutchfield. That includes mounting brackets and wire connector for the dakota.

nanohead: I think I will also go the route of tracking down a spare centre bezel to mod for a cleaner look.
