Default Another use for the Dakota...

Don't know how many of you guys are into hunting and shooting, but the Dakota makes a great shooting bench.

Just a heads up....

lol! Nice! Usually I shoot from the prone position out of the box but this idea definately has merit!

I don't know about the gun/hunting laws where you live, but here in B.C. it's against the law to shoot from/off of a motorized vehicle.

Well not sure how much the laws differ from Ontario to B.C but when I'm far enough out in the bush target shooting, I figure it won't matter much. I think if you are off the public road by a certain distance you are ok, but that is mostly a guess. Also, not sure how hunting laws come into play if I'm just target shooting seeing as I'm not hunting, and hunting has it's own specific laws.

I haven't got into the hunting thing yet even though my friends are trying hard to persuade me. My friend handed me a dead goose on Thanksgiving that his son shot as we stood outside his house talking so I know how to take one appart now, and now that I know how to do that, if the birds continue to **** on my truck.....well......I may just start with hunting geese!

it is probably the same for hunting and target shooting... In New Brunswick it refers to 'Discharging a firearm" not hunting..

But to each his/her own

In WI, you cannot have a loaded weapon touching your vehical or discharge a weapon from it. For example, I cant even set my loaded rifle on the tailgate while I grab something out of the case. I was taught that its best to not even park the truck close to where you are shooting. Not sure about Canada, but the DNR here can take everything you own if youre in violation, including your weapons, gear, and even your truck. I find it easier just to follow the DNR rules. Lol

It's the same thing!! How you are going to hunt if you don't "discharge a firearm" ?

Lol. You'd be surprised. I've heard of people using nothing more than their truck to go dear hunting with. Apparently a good bush bar helps.

Well in Canada there are federal laws, provincial laws, and city by-laws governing firearms. I'm sure it's probably structured similar in the U.S. According to the Ontario hunting laws which is where I am:

(Quoted from http://www.huntinginontario.ca/pdf/h...mation_eng.pdf)

"Aircraft may not be used while hunting.
Snowmobiles, vehicles or boats may not
be used for chasing, pursuing, harassing,
capturing, killing, injuring or destroying
any wildlife.
It is illegal to have a loaded firearm in
or on, or discharge a firearm from, an
aircraft, vehicle (including snowmobile
and all terrain vehicle) or motor boat or
anything towed by the boat."

There are exceptions if you are disabled. Then don't forget local by-laws, whatever they might be. The federal firearms act governs storage, transportation, firearms type, etc, etc. Either way, if I'm far out in the bush sighting in a gun or shooting some targets with some friends and I choose to sit or lie in the box of my truck while doing it, I'm not going to worry about it much. Unless of course a MNR official comes around I suppose
