I know it's crazy isn't it? Where abouts in NY are you? I live just south of Oswego in Fulton.

I found that out after I bought my truck and was reading this forum. If you dont have an lsd in the rear, you only have 2 drive wheels while in 4 lock .... so its still pretty easy to bury the truck. With a rear lsd, all 4 wheels will spin. Trust me, I know from experience

I do hate the lsd at times though. When that rear end breaks loose, you better hold on to your shorts because you will lose the whole rear end if youre not quick to react. You'll learn how to counter-steer pretty quick with an lsd. Atleast an lsd doesnt allow for one-wheel peels though so it does have its advantages by saving you some embarressment.

With a rear LSD, your fronts will still spin independently of each other, right?

I'm near Auburn - an hour south of Fulton. It's unusual to get so much snow in this particular region, but we can handle it.

No, 4x4 with a rear lsd is not the same as AWD.

When you have the rear lsd and you put it in 4lock, all 4 tires will spin the same amount. (Atleast to my understanding)

If I have it in 4lock on dry pavement, the front end will bind with the slightest turn of the wheel.

Someone please correct me if Im wrong though.

If your traditional 4WD is in 4HI or LO or LOCK or whatever, the engine is transmitting torque, via the transmission, to the transfer case. Torque is then applied to the front and rear driveshafts, which always spin at the same speed (AWD cars have center differentials that allow the front and rear shafts to spin at different speeds). So if you have a locked rear and an open front, you can still spin just one front wheel.

Adding an LSD to the rear axle will not change the fact that the front is a traditional open diff.

My 06 is AWD with option of 4WD Hi & Lo

All I can say is that my thread is only 40%, and I have no weight in the back. Still, It snowed here in Edmonton last night about 6 Inches, and my truck is having zero issues with it. It slams through everything and no spinning whatsoever. I'm a pretty happy pappy right now!
