Show him this. 12.8 @ 110 for the stock 5.0 GT Motor Trend tested.

Why can't we get a stock 2011 Dakota with a motor capable of that? lol.

I think we have been looking at the wrong vehicals, fellas .... for $32k to be able to go 0-60 in 4.3s is awesome!

All I know is I was shut down yesterday. I will never mess with a 2003-2008 or so Chevy Silverado again. Worst part; it was a GRANDPA! His truck appeared to be 100% stock. I was so embarressed I needed to turn off the road and just collect my thoughts.

Are you talkin about the straight 6? I had one of those in a 1990 jeep, just before I bought my red Dak with the 3.7. I dont think i had "more power" with that jeep, but it shure felt like it. (ya i know that the jeep was a MUCH lighter viehicle than my dak) I would be interested in puting one of those things in one of these dak's.

I couldnt imagine the 3.7 in a ram. I test drove a couple of rams with the 4.7, and it kinda felt a little under powered with that motor.

But this Dakota with the 4.7 seems to be properly matched IMO. I dont have any problems with it, and it is bone stock. The only real problem i could say is that the fuel economy SUCKS, but ida bought a 4x2 or a car if i wanted more mpg's.

The jeep probably had a nice gear ratio to match the output of the engine. I think with the Dakota, 3.55s just bog the engine down all the time. I would really like to test drive one with 3.92s to see the difference.

Well plus, what does the bed stripe add to the rear wheels? 10-15hp minimum?

The venerable old 4.0 I6 is my personal favorite engine. I've had four, two in Wranglers and two in Grand Cherokees that were the ex's daily drivers. Saddened me when they were discontinued.

I kinda think of them like the A-10 Warthog. It's a pig slow, gas guzzling, low HP engine that takes a beating and just keeps going and going. Lots of guys on the Jeep forums with 4.0s with over 250,000 miles on them.

I had a '98 GC with one that we gave to my mom when we bought the ex a new '02 GC Laredo 4x4 Sport. Mom had it three years until my step dad had a stroke and she needed to get a van for wheelchair access so she sold it to a friend of hers who bought it for her daughter who was starting college. The girl has since graduated and still drives it. Last I saw the thing it was fixin' to hit 160,000 miles, still the original tranny and the only thing above routine maintenance it's needed was the A/C condenser replaced.

Also IMHO it's the singe easiest engine produced in the last 30 years to work on. I think it would have been a great 6 cylinder engine for the Dak myself. What it lacked in HP it made up for in low end torque...

I loved my 4.0 in my TJ, that thing had amazing torque to the point that off the line none of the ricers could keep up with me.
Im kind of glad i dont have to 4.0 in the DAK though because the fuel mileage in my jeep was just retarded. with my 31x12.5x15 tires on it i was only getting 250 kms to a tank. Plus because of the torque i blew the spider gears in my rear diff 3 times within a year...thank god for warranty

the 4.0 I6 is almost a gas version of a cummins. That is what they should put in these, a Cummins Turbo Diesel. Not the 6.7. That would be an awefully tight fit, but wouldnt mind tryin to make it fit, but a decent powered 4 cyl. diesel motor.

I test drove a reg v8 magnum with 3.55's and then test drove my v8 H.O. with the 3.92's the difference is very noticeable.
