This is no help answering the question I guess but...one thing that always perplexed me is that our tachs have no redline marked on them. I've owned 4 Dakotas now (01, 04, 05, 08) and, if I recall correctly, the GEN II's had the redline RPM marked on the tach, but neither of my GEN III's did/do.

I know for a fact that I've had this one over 6000 RPM maaaany times and never had an issue. Even before I had the tuner on it, on WOT the tach would go well over 6K before shifting to 2nd gear. On the 05 though, with the 6 speed manny tranny, I'd hit the rev limiter on occasion before shifting to 2nd gear. Again though, I don't even know what RPM it's set at on this truck with the newer 4.7 because it's never even kicked in.

Maybe the better question/query would be...why do I feel the need to always drive like I'm being chased? :-/

what is the rev limiter set at on these trucks? my guess is you dont need a redline because the rev limiter kicks in, i just dont know where it kicks in

I think my programmer said the limit was set at 5800, but I could change it up to 6,500

Its under "advanced tune" ..... not "quick tune" and it will be called rev limiter.
