This is my 4th Dakota with a 4.7 (current model with new engine config, the last 3 having the previous version of V8) and they've all gotten about the same mileage. In fact, the 08 averages maybe 1 MPG better on the highway than the others, but the 05 (with 6 speed manny tranny) did like 1 MPG better around town. All 4 have gotten between 12-14 in town and 17-19 on a cross country trip.
All 4 of my Dakotas had EPA estimates of 14-19 on the window sticker, so each one has been consistent with those numbers. Just FYI.
I found out when I first got my truck, before any mods that if I drove like a grandpa and never took the RPMs above 2200, I actually got worse mileage than if I gave it a little more gas when taking off around the city. I average about 16 with half city and highway.
Our Journey gets 20 around town and maybe 27-28 on trips, loaded. And thats with the 4 cylinder. The V6 Journey is far worse. Fuel mileage is not Dodges forte apparently.

Never has never wil be. Dodge likes big motors little mpg.
I've said that for a few years now. While the other 2 of the big 3 have been touting their advances in fuel economy across their entire lineup, Dodge has basically been like, "screw MPG, how much power do you want"?
My '05 quad 4.7 gives me a consistent 15-17 mixed driving.. winter around town 12.. on one long trip from Home in New Brunswick to Manchester NH in April I managed 22 in the interstate.
These are for Canadian Gallons, so you can jack those numbers back 20% when converting to the us Gal.
well it should be Dodges responsibility to have it already unleashed not buried away waiting to be unleashed! lol otherwise they should take the cost of the parts and labor to unleash it! so instead of paying 30 we should pay 20 for it! hooah
