Slipping when cold
Well the truck is going in Tuesday morning for a problem that I hope to be minor. $45 is going to tell me whats wrong with the transmission, and $2100 will be the maximum if they have to rebuild it which is unlikley.
The problem happened for the first time a few days ago. After a cold start, while taking off from a dead stop something is slipping, causing the RPMs to raise and then it catches. What ever is slipping, it does it a few times and then is fine. After I drive it for a half mile, no issues at all. There is no delayed engagement or erratic shifting. Fluid looks good.
Some news that relieved me while expecting the worst:
- A slipping torque converter (due to the actual torque converter being bad) would generate a code and be significantly worse than the problem I am having. This means the transmission wont have to be dropped unless it has to be rebuilt.
- Most problems like this are caused a bad or cracked pressure plate in the valve body. Repair is usually around 300, and all that has to be removed from the transmission is the valve body.
- If I need the valve body rebuilt, it would be about 500 plus any new solenoid packs that I would need.
- If its the pressure switch, which Im hoping for, it can be replaced without taking the trans apart since its an external part.
- It could also be a bad check valve within the transmission which is allowing fluid to drain from the torque converter when the engine is off. This would be why it is slipping when cold.
Regardless of what it is, I was strongly advised not to buy a boneyard trans if I need to rebuild the tranny. I hope its cheap to fix .... but even if its only a few hundred, its taking away money from my "get a painted bumper, grille and roll pan" fund. Im keeping high hopes though, as the transmission performs like normal once I drive the truck for a few miles .... and we all know how I drive

The same dealership that wanted to sell me a transmission flush without even dropping the pan!?! Hell no! Lol. Im going to a shop just for transmissions. The guy knows what he is doing and guarantees his work .... and he doesnt rape people (or when he does, he uses synthetic so it doesnt hurt as much) .... Dodge dealers on the other hands are like that little kid with a magnifying glass, frying little ants on the sidewalk with the sunlight.
It breaks my heart to see people who dont know any better, taking their trucks to a dealership ..... UNLESS, they like Obama. jk (But Seriously)

Yeah, terrible in the long run though especially if you have high mileage. Anything you flush through is going to plug up the filters if they arent already plugged, and just cause bigger issues. It sounds good though when they tell you how they are going to exchange all the fluid and it will be just like new again.
well its always good to keep fresh fluid in but hey man i feel bad bro that sucks! but hopefully it is the soleoid! and hey man you can always buy an Airram stage 2! upgrade if its just that!

Yes sir. I would only exchange the fluid from your pan, in your case with 60k. There is a risk involved, but its no where near as risky as flushing, IMO. How clear is your fluid? Smell burnt or anything?
Sometimes when its cold out and i drive down the street (1/2 mile down from my house) its fine, however, sometimes when i turn at the stop sign and casually accelerate, when it shifts to 2nd itll like jump a little bit. I haven't looked into it yet but hope its nothing too bad :/ and when i need to accelerate hard, let's say at stop sign that brings you directly onto a highway, it shifts hard to 2nd...
