honestly i would suggest the "on top" spacer wether your 4x4 or 2x4 just because i dont like the idea of taking away 1-2" of the shock when its already not long enough from the factory. if your upper balljoint is going to bind or your cv is going to bind....they are going to bind no matter which kit you have. because the lift is the same with both kits. and unless your jumping it. your suspension will never see maxed out. and if it does its only for a split second and droop weight is probably only like 100 pounds maybe less so your balljoints will be laughing the stress they are getting.

Thats not entirely true. I am not sure if anyone missed my post on the last page, but the kits that pre-load the spring never extend more then the factory suspension could. The kit uses up articulation, but the suspension is still limited by the shock.

With the over the strut kits, the strut is placed 2" lower, and the shock never gets a chance to limit the suspension, instead, the strut over extends and the upper control arm contacts the coil spring. This becomes the new suspesion limiter. The angles on the cv joints and tie rods are much greater.

I wouldn't want either kit, but the Tm is superior because of this. Of course if articulation is your main goal, then you may very well want on over the top kit.

Hey Monkey,
If Im just looking for the safest option, would I want to install my kit in the strut? I don't go off road much, but when I do there have been times where one of my front wheels is off the ground. I don't want to start damaging my CV shafts over the leveling kit. Ill be installing it with Rancho struts next week.

Even with both of my wheels off the ground (truck is on jackstands), and the 2" daystar kit that lowers the strut assembly, I do not get cv bind. Its all in what you want. If you locate the spacer inside the strut, your front end will be stiffer. I feel that the ranchos do enough of a job stiffening up the front by themselves. Our front springs have a pretty high rate.
