Question about painting grill
Scuff the chrome, hit it with self-etching primer, sandable primer, base coat, paint and clear coat. I have pained several chrome bumpers and grilles and the self-etching primer hasn't failed me yet.

same here, I used 1500 grit sandpaper then wiped it all down with turpentine then washed it with dish soap. used self etching primer (2 coats) automotive paint (3 coats) and clear coat (2 coats). Has held up marvelously. The only thing I did wrong was not be patient enough and let the paint completely dry before doing a second coat.....
Blown's steps are pretty spot on... You need to make the chrome look like dull aluminum. No shiny spots remaining. I will be doing a write up on spraying the chrome black in a couple weeks when the weather warms up a bit.
While were on the paint subject does anyone have any tips on painting an ST unpainted front bumper?

Wet sand after clear is dry with 600, 1000, 1500, then 2000. Then buff to a high shine.
I said screw it cause I had started to take the chrome off and it just looked like crap so I ordered an all black one.
