The hitch and wiring is easy! All of the hitch companies (I think) sell a hitch system to fit. 4- and 7-wire harnesses are easy to come by and the basic installation is easy - just follow the directions in the package. The brake controller wiring is a little trickier, because we don't have the handy under-dash connector that comes with the tow package, but I installed mine in an hour. No need even to jack it up, with the clearance under a 4x4. I just have to connect the reverse-light wire and the aux. 12-volt wire for my 7-wire connector.

I grabbed a factory trans cooler from a 2nd gen. RAM 1500 at the U-Pull-It that I will install this weekend, I hope. Don't know if I'll go with a power steering cooler - I can't really see me hauling 6,000 lbs and sawing on the wheel.

Does anyone know if the charging system is heavier, or just a higher-amp battery?

Is the trans cooler real hard to put on or is it sumthin I'll be fairly simple for me to do

I'm assuming if I am pulling the occasional 4 or 5000 pounds maybe 1 time year a trans cooler be necessary?

I guess I'm off to the salvage yard to find a transmission cooler

Your truck has a trans cooler installed in the bottom of the radiator. If you want to add a larger separate cooler it should be a pretty easy install,
Just need a radiator, longer hose, some hose clamps and some mounting brackets.

I'm hoping it is that easy! Looking for some fittings now! I may go back to the U-Pull yard and get the fittings from the truck I pulled the cooler from! I cut the lines to remove the cooler, so I can't grab them . . . oops. Oh, don't forget the trans fluid. You need more to account for the cooler, plus you'll likely loose some as you install.

I have an 05 4.7L SLT with tow package. I assumed that it had a larger capacity radiator and a good trans cooler. The package states that it does. I resently had to replace the radiator and took the plastic tanks off of the old radiator. What I found was a piece of crap trans cooler imbedded in there. It doesn't look any better that the one on my Buick. I would go with the externat cooler anyway after seeing that. I do see a cooler for the steering.

I have that one. Mine bolted to the tube that runs through the bumper and to each frame rail. I have towed way past the 5,000 rating and no issues.

I have this hitch as well. It has held up great. I have towed 2800#(give or take a few #'s) for 4 straight hours with no problems. You will need a 1/2" allen wrench for one of the bolts though, the other two were 5/8's i believe(??) hope this helps

Not sure how far down the 3.55 gearing will put you but that does reduce your max towing capacity vs having the 3.92 gearing.
