Default Painting Calipers and drums (Questions)

I am thinking about painting my calipers and drums on my truck I may go red to stick out a little.. But I am wondering how to go about this? I know the back drums will come off so that would be easy but how about the front calipers? Do i need to disconnect the brake line or is there enough to move to get it so I wont get paint on everything else, I am guessing i would need to remove the brake pad as well.. As for the paint I was considering engine paint would that be ok or is there better paint to use.

thanks guys
( I did do a search but could not find a good how too)

I painted mine red. Removed the drums and just cleaned them real good with a industrial degreaser (purple power) and the used self etching primer, then I used red engine paint. Fronts I just cleaned and painted while they were still on the truck. Used a piece of cardboard to minimize over spray. Turned out real good.

to me anythings better than a dull cast color.

if your willing to take your front calipers off look into going powdercoat, strong and easy to clean...hmm think i just talked myself into doin this haa

any color beats the color of rusted cast. make sure it's a high temp paint. i did my drums in aluminum color(spray). Dupli-Color caliper paint comes in several colors. it's an 8 oz can and you use a small brush. easy to do and you only have to paint what you can see thru the rims, in other words, you don't have to wrap paint all the way around the back. only you or a mechanic is going to see the back of the caliper anyway.

Yeah...thats the problem...I'd know it was half-assed. These photos are not of the Dak, but my buddies RSX. I taped over all of the rubber seals to prevent damage, then a liberal dose of brake cleaner and wire brushing...followed by more cleaning. I did the calipers and mounting brackets using VHT High Temp Caliper Paint. 4 years later the paint is still holding up. I credit the obsessive pre-cleaning. He also got new slotted rotors and stainless braided lines.
