Sand off as much as possible and seal it with a protective paint like Rustoleum (they claim you can paint right over the rust if you want) or do a rubber protectant. It wont be pretty, but itll do the job.

Typically speaking the rust you see on the outside is 2-3 times as large on the inside of the panel the best cheap fix would be to see how for up the flares fit on the box. Cut enough of the sheetmetal to remove as much rust as possible. And use a rust encapsulator por-15 (for the people who think im pushing product) there is also some stuff out there called silver bullet and eastwood has a house brand encapsulator. This would be the best way for longevity. The only rt way to do it is put 2 boxsides on. If you patch the metal in anywhere you weld that you cant get to the backside to corrosion protect will be instant breeding ground for new rust.

Mine is the same way after this winter, rear has rusted horribly. The problem is they did a horrid job or pinch welding the bed and side panel. The only way to fix it properly is to separate the entire pinch weld and repair it from the inside.

This was before the winter, it is much worse now

Just because it's on the internet doesn't make it fact. So take it for what it's worth, but I'd definitely check with a dealer to see if it's covered. And do it BEFORE attempting to mount any aftermarket flares/splash guards.

http://www.autotropolis.com/warranty...-warranty.html

"The rust warranty covers the sheet metal on the outside of the vehicle. Any holes that are caused by rust corrosion are covered under this warranty. A surface chip or rusted area is not covered, nor is scratched paint. This warranty is good for five years or 100,000 miles."

That’s just wrong. I had mine undercoated as part of my deal and I had to tell the idiot where he was missing. I live in FL so salt from snow removal is not a problem but still these trucks rust like they where ten plus years old. My oil pan is almost rusted all the way through and I hope I can dump this bucket before I need to that $750 replacement repair. The front sway bar end links where so rusted that they lost 50% of the weld area to rust. I just replaced them over the weekend. I had the front body cross member the one in front of the radiator repaired twice under warranty because of bubbling rust. My buddy's 1996 T-100 Toyota has no rust and he lives beachside. I can’t even imagine my truck beachside.

this is not half bad compared to mine lol... i think what im going to do is contact dodge and see if im covered under the rust warranty, and if not ill spray rustoleum and then clearcoat it and then throw the bushwackers over it...
