Default Tire question (yea, another one)

I have searched DF and the internet with no luck. Maybe somebody can help me. I am going to be looking for new tires before winter. I know that this winter just passed but I am planning on buying one tire per month. ( lol) How much trimming should I expect with 285's? I have a TM leveling kit (1.5", not installed ATM) I am not necessarily looking for a taller tire just a hair wider. Any ideas? Can I space the front bumper forward? TIA

Nick

I have a 2" leveling kit and my 265/70 BFGoodrich ALL-terrains rubbed until I shaved it. Good Luck!

If you want i little more width, a 275/70/16 should be okay. 285 is just asking for trouble.

Agreed. My 285's rub like b*tch even after doing some hardcore trimming.

Nick, If it helps you out at all, next year I'm stuffing 285/75/16s on my truck with out a body lift. I will document all the trimming and such.

Guys, it can be done. The catch is, you have to be willing to trim quite a bit. I can safely say that the factory mud flap thingys will either be hacked beyond all reason, or removed completely. You will have to trim the inner fender liner (say, about 8" up), in front and behind the tire.

Guess I'll stick with 276/65-17 then, I was going to try 285's too, but I dont want to be hacking anything on my truck...lol

for a mere 10mm why would you do that, really, 10mm is like 1/4 inch. it really will not look that much different from the 275, and you will have two benifits, first no trimming of your truck, and second I am sure that going to 285 will hurt your MPG, maybe not much but it will for sure, and with gas prices going through the roof, why would you do it for 10mm? Not to mention the 285 will be more $ than the 275?
