Then Ill have to do more prep when I want to get it sprayed professionally

The high cost will come in with adhesion promoter that has to be used on all the parts. My mud flaps were $100 to get sprayed

I just did my grill, here is what I did:

I used 150 grit sand paper to scuff the grill up (did not remove the chrome, but a nice even sand job)

Next, self etching primer (whole can)
Wet sand with 320 grit
Black laquer primer (almost whole can)
Wet sand with 1000 grit
Mopar 8oz spray paint (2 cans)
2 coats clear coat (laquer)
Wet sand with 1000
2 coats clear coat (laquer)
Wet sand 1500, then compound it out.

I have to say, it came out very nice.
As I matter of fact, I went to get an estimate on a front bumper, the bodyman did not believe I did it with a rattle can.

He did tell me that that laquer clear coat would not hold up on the front of the vehicle...we will see.

I got a quote of $744.00 for a Mopar bumper cover, and repainting the grill at the same time (he only wanted $150 to paint it, so why not..it would match the bumper perfectly, and have an epoxy clear coat).

I am not swallowing that right now...I might try painting my current one first.

Kent,
The chrome grill is already bubbling after one winter..but I will use it until it gets too ratty

Epoxy (mix two parts together) clear coat is rugged, plain old lacquer is old school
