Default Eimer needs a new rack :-(

Well after having my truck in the shop again for steering issues, I decided to pressure test the rack since nothing else was seamed to have any play. What I have discovered is under no load to light load the pressure is not where it should be. This is causing the wheels to pull to the left and right which then is transferred to the steering wheel.

I spoke with the dealership about my issue and the have told me that inside the rack there is valving that might have worn down allowing the pressure to drop and allowing fluid to pass by.

So I will be replacing the rack when I add my leveling kit, and upper control arms. Since the front end will be apart anyways and need a alignment after It only makes sense to do it once.

On a side note, I have heard that recently they have come out with a re-engineered rack to deal with the rack issues, but I have not found anything on the net about it. It was just a word of mouth convo.

Can anyone confirm this?

2005 Steering Gear part #52013466AG
2006 Steering Gear part #52013466AI
2007 Steering Gear part #52013466AJ
2008 Steering Gear part #52038783AC

Anyone know if there is any difference between these?

from what I understand cardone redesigns the weak parts of steering components. If there was a weak design in our rack and pinion (and there probably is given dodge's history with steering) then they will be the ones most likely to have redone it.

They also offer a lifetime warranty on them too.

You can get them at O'Reilly's

Well at low speeds it kinda goes straight, the steering and wheels actually turn to the left and right, but kinda return to center, due to that return to center thing that trucks do.

It is probably a lifetime warranty on a piece of crap. The rack is the cheap part, the labor to replace it, and then do an alignment is the expensive part.

I just need to find something on this upgraded rack. I also need to do some research on what changes happened from 2005 to 2008. Something must have changed if the part #'s have.
