Default Fuel filling problem

Hello! New member and new Dakota owner. Just a small introduction before getting to my problem.

I'm a big time Mopar man. I have had countless old school muscle Mopars like Chargers, Dusters, Super Bee, etc. Still have a '72 Charger and, my baby, a '65 Sport Fury. My first Dodge truck was an '86 Ramcharger. I plan on being a regular here as I tend to get rather wrapped up in my vehicles! Hope that I can help some and have some good conversations with you all. Anyways, on to my problem.

I bought myself an '05 Dakota SLT club cab (4.7, auto) to haul my dirt bikes. The problem is that when I go to fuel the vehicle I have to barely get the pump going or it will come spewing out. It seems as if it is under pressure when it does this but I can't be for sure.

Is there a common problem with the Dakotas doing this? Anyone heard of this one? Do you think it is a blockage problem or a venting issue? Any insight on this issue would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forum. Be sure to post some pics of your truck. Mine just spews out when it gets full. Something about these filler necks, when it cuts off don't try to put more in...lol. did you check to make sure your filler neck is not damaged?

My ranger does this. Someone tried to jack the one gallon that was left in there and cut the neck with a sawzall. I replaced it with a non ford part. It was two hoses in one. A air relief and one for the fuel on the inside which was narrower. It was apparently kinked slightly during installation and now backs up with the slightest pressure, or it clicks. Takes 20 minutes to fuel up...

Long story short, check the fuel in hose and the air out hose. Dunno if they are the same unit on these dakotas 'cause I haven't looked close enough yet. I too am a new 3rd gen owner.

Great intro by the way. Most people are like:
"hi 05 dakota v8 4wd have whine from driveline thanks"

Welcome to DF.

I had the same problem on a new car, it would take forever to get some gas. The fuel neck was replaced and it has never happened again to this day.

My truck did this once. But it hasn't happened since then. I can rememer that it was really cold when it happened. However, it has been really cold since then...and it fills just fine.
