Default hood liner needed?

Hey all,
Just a quick question here. My Dak was owned by a gentleman who towed it back and forth to Florida and apparently picked up a stow away during his travels. My new tenant made himself extremely comfortable right over the engine inside the hood liner. He made his little castle out of the material piece by piece. I noticed a small hole which looked chewed out and was suspicious why I kept hearing a small rolling rattling every time i opened the hood. I peeked inside the hoodliner this weekend and found his home. Needless to say, my illegal tenant got evicted. Now, i have no hoodliner and was curious if i really need one. I recently installed an Ebay intake and I am hoping the removal of the hoodliner doesn't affect under hood temps. Any suggestions folks?

I removed mine the week after I got it because it was dry rotted and falling apart. Have not had any adverse effects from not having it. I think it is for engine noise mostly...

I removed mine also after I found a critter receiving free rides. I did not notice any noise difference. Snow melts off of the hood in the winter faster, which is not a bad thing. Have not had any issues.

I'll probably pull mine out as well, it just looks so much cleaner.

the only thing I was worried about was if the liner protects the hood paint from excessive heat.
