I know someone else on here is doing this but how realistic is it to swap a 3rd generation motor into a 2nd? My dad's 00 dakota blew up and he wanted me to check on options. Would you have to change to wiring harness if you were to swap a new engine? Any help on the options we have would be good.

 

depends on the options that your dads truck came with. unless your dads truck came with the 4.7l motor you cant put a gen 3 motor in without changing the trans tcase if 4x4 and the wiring harness and computer

 

if it uses the same trans they you can do it. and you can use the same computer but takes some re wiring work. and you will also need to change the crank tone ring which is a huge job and most shops wont do it. best bet is to find a gen2 motor with a jtec pcm (3plugs). that way you can just directly swap your electronics. and 2g to 3g is possible but would require alot of work.\


the 3G 4.7 use the same tranny as us 2G 4.7's
