I have an '08 Laramie with a factory sunroof and after 40,000 miles, it is leaking. It looks like it is coming in and leaking inside the windshield pillars and dripping from the grab handle on the window posts, both sides. Water is also dripping onto the right side floormat from the lower dash area.I assume it is from the sunrrof although it could be the windshield, either way the warrantee is up and the dealer wont fix it (go figure) Has anyone had this problem and what would be the first step? I have opened the sunroof and cleaned the edges and looked for debris, it appears to be clean. This is obviously rainwater and not condensation. let me know what my options are before i contact a specialist and start disassembling this thing.

 

Try doing a search, I believe this was happening to a lot of 3rd gen ram owners also. I was one of them. It was coming in from my windshield and only did it when it rained really hard. I had the windshield re-sealed and it stopped..good luck

 

Get your hose out or a bottle of water and go around every seam one at a time. Find out which one it is andthen go from there. There is usually a drain tube that runs down one or both of the a pillars. Sometimes they get clogged. Sometimes they dry out and leak.

 

Drain tube comes from the sunroof btw.

 

My money would be on the windshield seal; they have been known to be faulty in the Dakotas.

 

I am going to be replacing this windshield anyways, its chipped in a couple places and has a crack in it. That should stop the leak.

 

I had this exact same issue in my 2006 Dakota. Same leaks same spots. Both drain tubes were clogged with crap. I took and blasted both drains clear using high pressure air. I could see the crud coming out of the tubes. The drains are near the front corners of the sunroof cutout. They drain out the front fender area about halfway down the door. I have had several hard rains since I did this with no further leaks.

 

Not trying to steal the thread but:

I noticed over the winter when I took my truck to the DIY wash that the rear windshield leaked a little bit when I would spray out the crud from the top seam. Is it cheap to get your windshields resealed or do you think it would be better and easier to just do it myself with some RTV Silicone?

 

Make sure they replace the windshield seal instead of using the old one. A lot of times they will try to cut corners and not replace the seal. I am sure it will be an extra cost, but it's worth it.
