I've never been a fan of adding a scoop to an existing hood, especially when they are dis-similar materials. I.E Metal hood and fibreglass scoop.

No matter how well the hood is prepped, the fibreglass will eventually delaminate from the steel, due to differing expansion and contraction rates. There are compounds that will delay this, but it will still happen eventually.

The best way to do this would be to create a complete hood with the desired scoop. The problem is that the market for this is likely so small, that it is not worth doing.

When I made my hood for my Skyhawk, I did a very simple, really a low production quality mold for the outside and a one time use inner mold. I had around $400 into materials alone, it would have been much more if I was making a pair of high production molds. This also wasn't including any time.

I would recommend making a complete hood, for durability.

Aside from bolt on scoops looking like absolute pooh, If the scoop in question is the one that I think it is, the only way to make it look right is to cut the hood out and mold it in.

I dunno I think Eric's hood looks pretty sick, I would do the same thing if I had the guts to cut a hole in my hood lol. Cudos to him.

I think as long as you match up the lines of the hood and have the corner edges of the scoop match the overall lines of the truck it would look good no matter what. Might be easier to just get a hood from a wrecker that's in good shape and get the materials to make a scoop the way you want. Make an art project out of it in your spare time, if you mess it up, no big deal, but once you get it the way you want it to look, get it painted to match and swap'em.

I can't do fiberglass, but I have been told numerous times that I am awesome with sheet metal.

Thanks for speaking up bro! Have you ever thought of making a scoop or try to copy the R/T style one? If so, think you'd be up to the challenge of giving it a shot and if it turns out good possibly make and sell some to us?

I would think with a bolt on, as long as you can match up with the lines of the truck, and attach it completely flush with the hood it would look fine, and just to make sure it doesn't come up anywhere, go ahead and double it up with some sticky tape.
