Help me price my truck to sell, please
I'm thinking of selling my truck, for no real good reason. I'm just ready for something different.
It's a 2005 Dakota Quad Cab, V8, Auto, topper with carpeted top, bedliner, CD, power drivers seat, A/C, power windows, power locks, hitch with factory wiring, sliding rear window on truck and the topper.
It only has 44,000 miles on it.
It's pretty much spotless - really, it is. Picture 1079 shows a small scuff on the tail gate which could probably be buffed out. There are a couple of very small spots on two of the seats. They also might be able to be shampooed out.
The only problem with it is that there might be a belt broken on one of the tires. I'm getting the spare and that tire swapped out. It's causing a little shimmy when driving. It's also causing that same wheel to be out of balance.
I'm the second owner. I bought it in 2009 with only 15,000 miles on it. It was driven by a guy who never left town with it. He babied it. So do I.
I'm looking for a little help with the pricing. KBB says $15,670, $14,995 and $13,920 for excellent, good and fair conditions, respectively.
Here are the photos of it, before I washed it.

I'm not so sure about the KBB values...
I know that A truck of your year, mileage and condition leaves my local dealer for about $13000, and thats the dealer...
Current Gas prices too.... Maybe you could find a full size guy looking to save some gas money.
I would think 11k-12k was realistic and fair.
But yours IS in GREAT shape with lots of goodies.
I would wait for a few other opinions.

I have almost your exact same truck, except mine is not a 4x4 and doesn't have the topper. Same color, year, v-8, quad cab. When I bought it in 09 it had 42K miles on it. Similar trucks of almost equal trim level at the time I bought it were going for over $15K at the dealership. I got mine from a guy on eBay who only wanted to clear what he owed and sold it to me for just over $10K. Even though the topper is nice to have, to be honest, you really can't calculate that into the value of the truck, mainly because it's a personal preference accessory and you would probably be better off trying to sell it separately. That being the case if you decided to do that, I would be interested in it for a fair price if you don't live too far away. Other than that, if I was to sell your truck, because of it being 4x4, with a v-8 and quad cab and only having 44K miles on it, I would price it at $14K at least. If you want it to sell quickly, I would let it go for no less $11K. At that price, it would really be a steal. This is just my opinion, but if I was looking at Dakota's now, the way I was 2 years ago, I would have probably paid $15K for yours without really thinking about it.

I've got on 06 thats just like yours minus the 4x4 and hitch and I paid $13,300 when it was 3 years old in 09 with only 32,000 miles and the KBB at the time was in the $17,000 ballpark and I got in from a dealer. It all has to do with gas prices, people dont want a gas hog with proces this high.

Just as a point of reference, you might want to add where your located at.
I know here (West Virginia mountain area) its rare to even see a 2wd and there is no 2wd market. 4wd is mandatory and not considered an "option"
If say you were more southern, then 4wd would be considered an upgrade/option which would command a higher price.
Also you need to look at your market... are you in a large area with money, or a S#!T hole town where nobody makes over 20k a year... all these things play into local market value.
Yes KBB etc are general guidelines but you really should look locally for a realistic price point.
Just an example, a $2000 motorcycle here can easily be a $3200 bike in California.
...you gotta price to your market...

If you don't NEED to sell your truck, it would be better not to sell it. This is probably the worst time to sell it with the still sour economy and $4.00 gas. Dakota resale prices are traditionally low even when other factors are good.
I thought about selling mine recently but decided that with it being paid-for and pretty much setup like I want, selling it for 1/3 or 1/4 of what it would cost to replace it doesn't make sense. Remember that it's only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it.
